Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Scheme

Closure of the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Scheme

With the application window for the HIA Redress Scheme now officially closed as of 02 April 2025, we are pleased to confirm that in the final fortnight of the scheme’s operation, our Jack Dowling successfully secured financial settlements for two clients who suffered abuse as minors whilst in institutional care in the 70s and 80s.

Despite the narrow timeframe, we obtained compensation awards of £45,000 and £50,000 respectively, ensuring both clients received recognition and redress for the harm they endured.

These outcomes reflect our commitment to achieving justice for survivors of historic abuse and the importance of acting swiftly and effectively in time-limited redress processes.

Both clients were extremely grateful:

“I can’t thank FinucaneToner and Jack Dowling enough. They were professional, supportive, and always took on board what I had to say. After years of carrying this burden, they helped bring some closure and justice. I’ll never forget what they’ve done for me." Client B
